Managing diabetes can feel like a full-time job. What to eat or what not to eat? becomes the million-dollar question at any time you put food in your mouth. Diabetes can discourage you from enjoying one of the most basic, needful, and fulfilling things in life . . . eating! For most memorable events in life, there is always food, like dating, weddings, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and even funerals. It’s not just a physiological need, it’s also an emotional need. Diabetes can certainly get in the way of happiness, if not under control.
So, let’s laugh about diabetes before we get all serious about how to manage it. As Mary Poppins used to say “a teaspoon of sugar makes the medicine go down”. And I promise, the kind of sugar she’s referring to, won’t raise your blood sugar.
